Britain’s Royal Weddings a documentary shown on BBC 1, April 2011

I was lucky enough to be part of this exciting program having made the Royal wedding cake for HRH the Prince of Wales & the Duchess of Cornwall. The programs chart Royal Weddings from the late Queen Mother to the Prince & Duchess, in the lead up to the historic wedding of Prince William to Catherine Middleton.

I have also appeared on BBC Look North & have been interviewed on Peter Levy’s lunchtime radio program, Wave 105 radio & was filmed & interviewed for Field & Rural Life magazine. I was also part of ITV I Didn’t Know That About Britain in March 2014 to name but a few!

St Brides

In March 2011 I was commissioned by “Visit London” to make a huge 4 foot 6 inch tall, 2 foot wide cake replicating the steeple & spire of St Brides a famous medieval church in London’s Fleet St.

The huge cake was to celebrate weddings in general but also to celebrate the historic wedding of Prince William & Catherine Middleton on April 29th 2011.

There is a wonderfully romantic story surrounding the church, also known as the “Cathedral of Newspapers” when the newspapers were based in Fleet St the journalists married at St Brides. It’s also known as the “wedding cake steeple” It is said that in the 18th century an apprentice baker named Thomas Rich fell in love with the baker’s daughter & asked for her hand in marriage. For their wedding day he wanted to make something spectacular, so took his inspiration from the steeple of St Brides & created the first known tiered wedding cake & the rest as they say is history....
